The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 6 is now active!
When the BRC standard changed from Issue 4 to issue 5 in 2008 Grade A sites dropped from 70% to 15% of the total inspections!
Since consultations with the food industry started more than a year ago the "go live" date for the new The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 6 has been eagerly awaited.
Since 1st January 2012 the new standard is being used for all BRC Food inspections.
Key changes for Issue 6 include:
-
Expanded sections on foreign body control, hygiene and housekeeping, and allergens
-
Introduction of a new voluntary 2 stage unannounced audit scheme
-
A reduced number of clauses to ensure each expresses a significant idea, this will contribute to consistency of grading as requirements are now of similar significance.
There are, however, many changes which are important enough to drive a non-conformance when businesses are audited against the standard.
Food Fix has conducted a "line-by-line" GAP analysis of the standard and have identified 169 changes, for example there are 7 changes in "Pest Control" alone.
